About Our Class
Offering close racing and great social events built around a North Island weekend regatta circuit, the Elliott 5.9 class is the perfect 3-person boat. The class is low maintenance, low cost and is sailed by a crew of 3.
Designed by Greg Elliott and was first released in 1983 the Elliott 5.9 boasts an efficient single spreader fractional rig, well balanced sail plan, practical deck layout and a performance hull that offers the response and maneuverability of a modern sport boat.
The New Zealand racing scene is strong, with the highly popular and competitive Traveler Series. This series is carefully timed to avoid major racing events and the summer season. The racing format for these events and nationals is windward leewards, often on short courses. The class attracts top sailors and the racing is hotly contested but with a friendly and helpful social element.
The class is currently relocating the class moulds with the intention of building more new boats. Also the Class Association has ensured that all E5.9-specific components are available through approved suppliers. Purpose built trailers and trailer mast holders are also available. Check the suppliers page for details.
The Class Association hosts a social dinner at the Omaha event each spring - families and friends are encouraged to attend.
